Cafe Oska is a cosy and genuine coffee shop and restaurant located in the heart of Byron bay, the little beach town in the northern rivers, popular for surfing, backpackers and other travellers.When the couple Lina Lundgren and Manie Ackah decided to take over the venue, it was because of the magic ambience that the location had, inherently. Located underneath the Byron bay English Language School (BBELS), and still tucked away from the main streets, makes the cafe very special. It has an international atmosphere, as well as a casual quietness that you can't find anywhere else in Byron bay.
When we asked the manager what attracted him to Cafe Oska, he said it was the intercultural mix and opportunity to create something unique. They wanted to create a space with a friendly vibe where people feel welcome. Especially welcome. Furthermore, with Manie and Lina having backgrounds from different continents, i.e. Africa and Europe, they wanted to incorporate that with the Australian culture. Therefore, the restaurant chose to have a breakfast menu mostly relying on the typical Australian 'breaky', an International lunch and a Multicultural Dinner with African, Caribbean and Indian Specialty food.
All the meals are cooked fresh in the restaurant, so that every meal is authentic to its origin. Cafe Oska aims to use fresh vegetables sources locally, as well as authentic imported goods. For example, when you order the Fufu with African Fish. You do get the REAL thing. From West Africa. From Ghana.
